411 Multicultural Choir Is Born!

For two years now Jim Hahn has been nursing a dream to organize a multicultural choir.  Due to unavoidable circumstances, it never became a reality.  However, with the cooperation of Carol Lloyd, who published ads in the last few issues of the News and Views and provided a list of former 411 Glee Singers, things are starting to happen!

Focused on his dream, Jim Hahn has also approached the yoga, dance, fun and fitness and ESL classes to recruit participants.   Jim was successful in his efforts to recruit participants, and the first practice session of the Multicultural Choir took place on November 12, with almost a dozen members.

It is interesting to note that the Choir has two pianists:  Kui Fen Chen and Esther Gumboc.  The latter agreed to be the Choir’s pianist.  She also has a younger sister, Nora Rosales, who is a former opera singer.  Nora assists Jim in leading the Choir.  The Choir’s solist is Phebe Lat.

For those of you interested in joining the Choir, the group meets every Tuesday and Friday, from 11 am to 12:30 pm, to practice Christmas carols.  The Choir’s first performance will take place on December 9th during the Members’ Christmas Dinner.  Jim and Sofia would like to encourage other 411 members to join this new and exciting Choir.

Jim also volunteers as an I&R counsellor and organizes the opera appreciation program at 411. Many thanks to Jim Hahn for his hard work.
