Our Volunteers
Each year over 200 volunteers provide us with 40,000 hours of their time. These volunteers perform a variety of tasks that range from running our three second-hand stores, to working at reception, to serving as Information and Referral counsellors, to hosting a weekly radio show! All their hours of work really are invaluable to the organization and we do not know what we would do without them. It is with the assistance of these dedicated individuals that we are able to continue to have a positive effect on the lives of seniors.
Our volunteers have different reasons for volunteering at 411 The top reasons, according to a 411 Volunteer Survey conducted in 2001, are:
- To use skills and past experiences to help others
- To meet new people with similar interests
- To gain experience and further develop skills
The 411 Seniors Centre truly recognizes the importance and value of volunteers, not only within our Centre, but also within the community as a whole. Our volunteers are honoured and recognized in the following ways:
- Invitation to our two greatly anticipated volunteer appreciation events each year
- Free lunch in our cafeteria for each shift worked
- 25% discounts in our three stores
- Presentation of 15-Year Volunteer Recognition Pins
- Active participation by 411 in the National Volunteer Week
- Recognition through the volunteer newsletter
- Recognition in the News & Views
